Hundreds of thousands of people have come to Germany from war zones in the last year. Faced with this new reality, a few friends in Berlin asked themselves how we would all live together moving forward.
The aim was to overcome foreignness. Poetry as a cultural bridge seemed to be a good start.
The Poetry Project is their initiative. Translators, graphic artists, workshop mentors, lawyers and actors have volunteered their time and expertise, among them Nele Engelbrecht, Julia Huston, Susanne Koelbl, Carolina Mojto, Rottkay, Rezwan Samadi, Lydia Schamschula, Aarash D.Spanta, Mira Wichers, and Maxmarie Wilmoth. The Poetry workshop is financed entirely at private expense for now.
