Afghanistan
Noman Nory was born in 1995 in Kabul, Afghanistan, and fled to Germany with his parents and siblings.
After graduating from the Humboldt-Gymnasium in Potsdam, he studied political science at the University of Duisburg-Essen, earned a master's degree in Public Policy at the Hertie School in Berlin, and studied as a DAAD scholarship recipient at Duke University in North Carolina, USA. He gained his first professional experience at the Foreign Office with the UN in Geneva.
At The Poetry Project, Noman wants to let his thoughts run free and unfold creatively. Through poetry, he depicts and processes his experiences and feelings as he navigates challenges in German society and his path of social advancement through education as a German citizen with an Afghan migration background. Against this backdrop, his works explore love, happiness, fear, hope, and cultural identity.
In his free time, Noman enjoys playing soccer, volunteers as an interpreter for refugees, and works as a trip supervisor for the Start Foundation.
