Kahel Kaschmiri (*2000) grew up in an eight-member family in the Afghan province of Ghazni. A militia commander had set his sights on the boy. Kahel fled through Iran in the trunk of a smuggler's car. After 29 days of fleeing by car and on foot, the then 14-year-old finally reached Berlin and had to build a life without his family. He does not have fond memories of his early days in the big city and his temporary accommodation in a hotel. Kahel does not miss Afghan food, as he can now cook everything his mother prepared for him as a child. In his writings, he focuses on the contrasting experiences of life in Ghazni and Berlin. He attended school until the 10th grade and has since begun training as a hotel manager.
