The youth cultural festival "Do it!" in Wuppertal has already become a tradition – for the third time, in June, the municipal Diakonie invited young refugees, their guardian families, volunteers, and employees from youth welfare facilities in Wuppertal to an open stage.
Across language barriers, film contributions, singing, poetry, and recently even dance music were presented. The goal was to bring the young people closer together, while also providing them with a platform for their own performances. Barbecue was served in the courtyard of one of Germany's oldest and largest socio-cultural centers – the Börse Wuppertal.
In between the musical contributions, lyrics of a different kind also found their place - The poets of the Poetry Project read poignant poems about lost childhood, the arduous journey to Germany, challenges, but also about friendship and love that transcend all boundaries.
