In Berlin I discover borders
overcome, overturned, undermined.
As the ’89 woodpeckers knew,
walls cannot last forever
when people strive to be together.
In my German class dividing lines
between ‘expat’, ‘migrant’, ‘refugee’
disappear; in our mistakes
all are one. Together we sidestep
imperialism, colonialism, globalism
and find common ground in our
new common language.
