This time, our poetry journey took us to the north of Germany, to the charming city of Schleswig. We were invited by the Vocational Training Center to organize a reading and a workshop with students learning German as a second language. The workshop was co-led and interpreted by our multi-talented poets Jamal Abasi, Mariia Kaziun, Mohamad Zahra, and Rojin Namer. Under the motto "What I See," drawings of windows into the past and the future were created, which later served as the basis for poetic texts.
A special highlight of the reading was a new poem by Mohamad Zahra, a love poem that perfectly suited the school context: “I love you, and love means learning, like a child still going to school, / a young boy running headless through the streets, often going astray, falling in love, and full of turmoil, / who writes wildly as a bird chirps, throwing measures and rhymes into disarray, / who sees scattered grimaces in the streets and draws his own lines behind all the lines.”
The city of Schleswig welcomed us with bright sunshine, allowing us to swim in the Schlei, go on bike tours, play table tennis, and enjoy ice cream during breaks. We are very grateful for the generous hospitality, including the provision of bicycles and table tennis paddles, and we hope to continue this wonderful exchange.
