This poem is a reminder
of the drowned migrants
and the lovers whose unity
was thwarted by the sea.
A love letter was the last
message from his beloved,
yet the water stole her lines,
the water that thirsts for my
life and yours.
Your eyes would fill with tears if they
ever caught sight of her secret lines.
So great was her yearning for him
that she tried to swim to him,
her beloved,
but along the way the sea swallowed her.
Down with this world,
down with the sea,
which casts a storm
over this love.
She was alone in the heart of the sea,
drowned in her remembrance of him.
He is still waiting for her on the shore,
while she already awaits their reunion
full of yearning in paradise.
Beloved,
do not linger in your grief for her,
asking the sea instead
to tell you her whereabouts.
Accuse the sea,
to which you entrusted your beloved,
that the sea broke your oath of friendship
and betrayed your love for her.
